Frequently asked questions
Short answers about the app and subscriptions. Pricing on the site is a US reference; confirm in the App Store for your region.
What is Everyday Futurist?
A daily practice app for thinking about the future. You get a short scenario, context (signal, trend, ethics), and reflection questions. Optional AI can stretch ideas (free users get a limited preview; Pro unlocks the full Future Lab).
Do I need an account?
No for the core experience. Your reflections and most data live on your device first. Pro subscribers who want cloud backup and sync can Sign in with Apple. See the Privacy Policy.
What’s the difference between free and Pro?
Free: Today’s prompt, reflections, library, explore content, learning paths as shipped, and a limited number of “Expand with AI” runs per day on Today. Pro: Full Future Lab (What If, Scenario Lab, Signal Scanner, Coach, Theme Hunter, Futures Wheel, STEEP, Portfolio, etc.), exports where the app offers them, certificates on learning paths where marked Pro, and backup/restore plus Sign in with Apple / sync when you use that flow. Labels can change slightly between versions.
How much does Pro cost?
Subscriptions are sold through Apple; prices vary by region. On this site we show a US reference: $4.99/month (3-day free trial) and $29.99/year (7-day free trial). Always check the price shown in the app before you subscribe.
Why does “Consult the Coach” send me to a paywall?
The Coach lives inside the Future Lab, which is Pro-only. Free users still get Expand with AI on Today (with limits) as a preview.
How do subscriptions work?
Billed through Apple. We use RevenueCat to know whether your Pro access is active. Manage or cancel in Apple ID → Subscriptions. Use Restore Purchases in the app if you reinstall or change devices.
Where is my data stored?
On your phone by default. If you subscribe to Pro and sign in with Apple, copies can sync to our backend (Supabase). Details: Privacy Policy.
What gets sent to AI?
When you use Expand with AI or a Future Lab tool, the text you enter (and needed context, e.g. Coach chat history) goes to our API and then Google Gemini to generate a reply. It’s used to run the feature, not sold for ads. See the Privacy Policy.
Is AI output reliable?
No. AI can be wrong, biased, or oversimplified. It’s for reflection and creativity, not professional, legal, financial, or medical advice. Don’t rely on it for high-stakes decisions.
Can I export or back up my data?
Yes, where the app provides Export Backup / Restore Backup and other exports in Settings (and Pro-only exports where labeled). Backup files are yours to keep private.
Does the app work offline?
Core reflection and browsing work offline once content is on your device. AI, sync, and subscription checks need internet when you use those features.
Is Everyday Futurist on Android?
This marketing site focuses on the iOS App Store. If you ship on Google Play, update your store links and this answer. Sign in with Apple in Settings is iOS-only as implemented; Android Pro flows may differ.
How do I delete my data?
On device: Delete content in the app or remove the app (local data may be removed with the app). Cloud: If you use Sign in with Apple and sync, contact us at hello@matthewkerr.org to ask about deleting cloud data.
Who do I contact for help?
Email hello@matthewkerr.org. For billing and refunds, Apple handles subscription management per their rules.
Where are the legal documents?
On this site: Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. Markdown sources for your records live in the repo under
docs/.
